Brian Clinnin
Scenic and Costume Design

Brian Clinnin (Scenic and Costume Design) is a Scenographer who teaches and designs in all areas at TCU: scenery, lighting, costumes, makeup, sound, and props.  Prior to his recent move to Texas, Brian worked at Chicago Scenic Studios, building and painting scenery for projects as: ABC-7 Chicago State Street Studio Set; CBS Sports Set, New York, NY; “Late Night With Conan O’Brien in Chicago,” Oprah Winfrey Show; Chicago Field Museum; The Adler Planetarium; The Museum of Science and Industry; Chicago Shakespeare; “The Radio City Christmas Spectacular”. He was raised in Chicago and began his university career studying Industrial Design on scholarship at the University of Illinois.  His love of drawing and painting took him to the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kansas, where he completed his BFA in Illustration/Design.  He then returned to Chicago to study painting at The Art Institute of Chicago and began work as a professional mural painter and carpenter, and he eventually earned his union card while building homes in the Chicagoland area.  As a result of combining building and painting, he created his own business with his father and brother-in-law, which created custom children’s furniture, and fully realized children’s rooms featuring bunk beds, dressers, bookshelves and floor to ceiling murals.  Brian returned to the University of Kansas to work on his MFA in Scenography and teach scenic production.  He earned his MFA from KU with Honors in addition to winning First Place awards in regional scenic design scholarship programs for 3 consecutive years from the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival for his scenic designs for A Streetcar Named Desire, Blood Wedding and Macbeth.  Most recently, while at TCU, he created the scenery for Scapino! in addition to the set and lighting design for The Laramie Project.  Brian is a member of The United States Institute for Theatre Technology, and Theatre Without Borders.  He and his wife Mikki reside in Fort Worth.
